The university council concluded in its fourth session for the academic year 1441h, conducted on 02/08/1441h, corresponding to 26/03/2020 in regard to the academic promotion procedures for faculty affiliated with centers and research institutions and has made the following decision:

The council approves the following terms and application procedures for faculty’s academic promotion who are affiliated to the university’s research centers as follows:

First: Associate Professor Application Requirements

• The applicant must serve/have served four years in the rank of an Associate Professor at a Saudi university or a recognized university, and no less than three years at King Abdulaziz University.
• The minimum requirements of academic production seeking a promotion must be met, which are: five research units published in an ISI journal and must not exceed six research units published under the recognition of King Abdulaziz University, and the applicant must be the main researcher in two research units.
• The academic production must be on the same field of major of the applicant.
• The publication must be published in more than three publication sources in a period exceeding 2 years minimum.
• All publications must be finalized.

Second: Full Professor Application Procedures

• The applicant must serve/have served four years in the rank of an Associate Professor at a Saudi university or an approved university, and no less than three years at King Abdulaziz University.
• The minimum requirements of academic production seeking a promotion must be met, which are: seven research units published in an ISI journal and must not exceed eight research units published under the recognition of King Abdulaziz University, and the applicant must be the main researcher in three research units.
• The academic production must be on the same field of major of the applicant.
• The publication must be published in more than three publication sources in a period exceeding 3 years minimum.
• All publications must be finalized.

Third: These conditions are applicable for the scientific research centers and excludes publication in ISI journals for (Arabic Language – Islamic Studies) which are at liberty to publish in different languages.

Fourth: Application Procedures:

• The Administrative Council of Academic Research proposes the applicant’s file, the scientific council of both the applicant’s field of major and college communicates with the university’s Vice-President of Higher Studies and Scientific/Academic Research as well as the President of the Scientific council, which specify the academic section and college that the applicant belongs to.
• The central executive council reviews the applicant’s form and nominates seven academic judges from different nationalities for assessment.
• The application is forwarded to the center’s president to finalize procedures and to send the application to the permanent committee for academic promotions.
• All promotion-applications are to be sent online, paper-based applications are not permitted.

Fifth: Centers Promotion Application Procedures

The applicant’s file is assessed from (100) points based on the following criteria:

• (70) points for academic production
• (30) points for university and community service

Applicants’ academic production is assessed based on procedures followed by the promotions committee.

*(30) points in community service are calculated as follows

The applicant must produce a presentation in front of the center’s scientific council relative to the applicant’s major, and said presentation is to be attached and is calculated as (5) points.

• Preparing two training workshops in the applicant’s major at the university and is calculated as (5) points.
• Twi general presentations at the university or other universities and is calculated as (5) points.
• Contributing as a supervisor in Masters’ thesis-related duties and is calculated as (5) points.
• Contributing as a supervisor in Doctorates’ thesis-related duties and is calculated as (5) points.
• Cooperating with colleagues in sharing knowledge of the field, specifically, Saudi faculty and is calculated as (5) points.
• For the promotion to Associate Professor, the applicant’s median grades average granted by the academic production council must be between 40 to 70 points.
• For the promotion to Professor, the applicant’s median grades average granted by the academic production council must be between 45 to 70 points.
• The total final grades of the college (the median grades average from the academic production council and the university and community service) for the promotion of “Associate Professor” or “Professor” must be between 70 to 100 points.
